Monday, January 14, 2008Count 'em
Here's a question I bet you can't answer off the top of your head:
How many teeth do you have? It struck me this morning that while I've had the same number of teeth for more than half of my life, and I know how many extractions I've had as well - two to make space prior to wearing a brace, horrible thing, and one crooked wisdom tooth - and I still couldn't say off-hand how many were left over. (Twenty-seven, since you ask.) It seems like the sort of thing one should know. Can anyone here say how many teeth they have without checking?
Comments:
I'm pretty sure I have 32, unless the usual adult-teeth number of 32 counts wisdom teeth. Then I would have 28. Wow, I really don't know.
I have 29 (soon to be 28 since I'm about to have my last wisdom tooth removed). Emi above has 28 and Ms. Whitfield has actually had five teeth removed (or she has two impacted wisdom teeth she doesn't know about). An adult human has 32 teeth, including wisdom teeth. So if you have 27, you're missing five of them.
I did know this off the top of my head, but I'm an obsessive counter who remembers numbers very easily.
Actually no, I've only had three teeth removed. But the wisdom teeth on my lower jaw grow are impacted, so they never emerged. I know about them, I just don't include them: I reckon if you can't eat with a tooth, it doesn't count.
